Course: “Challenges of Organic Arable Farming” successfully completed

The first on-line course in the framework of Ok-Net Arable project, “Challenges of Organic Arable Farming”, was successfully completed on June 30, 2017. 

The course lasted for three months and included six modules covering the main five topics of OK-Net arable project: Soil quality and fertility, Nutrient management, Pest and Disease control, Weed management and Crop specific issues. A sixth module represented the synthesis and recovery of information provided in previous modules, with particular focus on farmer group’s opinion on topics covered. For each module, theoretical background was provided to participants, with integration of topic specific tools from farmknowledge.org platform. 

A total of 38 participants attended the course, coming from 25 countries and different institutions and backgrounds, such as Ministry of Agriculture, Universities, Certification bodies, Farmers, Private companies, Research centers, Extension services etc. The most numerous participants were from European countries, followed by Maghreb and Middle East countries.

At the end of each module, participants were asked to give their evaluation for the module and for tools provided. Feedback given in evaluation and comments from discussion forum on the e-learning platform for the first course will be used for future advancement of teaching materials that are going to be presented in two coming courses in the framework of OK-Net Arable project. The second on-line course will run from September to November, and will be tutor supported and the third course will be in December as self-learning on-line course.
